September 2026 was one of the busiest months for new phones in years, with launches from Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Poco and more. But most of these phones are sold in India or China first, so the real question for buyers in Nigeria is: which of them can I actually buy? Here is a clear summary of what launched and what it means for you.
Launch details come from public reports and manufacturer announcements. Some launches are for specific countries only, and prices are in the currency stated. Nothing here is a Nigerian price unless it shows ₦.
Apple: iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Apple held its “Surprise and shine” event on September 9. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are the main launch, with the new A20 Pro chip. Reports also cover a first foldable iPhone, called the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, with a roughly 7.8-inch inner screen and fingerprint unlock instead of Face ID. Foldable details and pricing (estimates start around $1,999) come from reports and previews, so treat them as unconfirmed until Apple’s own page lists them.

Samsung: Galaxy S26 FE
The Galaxy S26 FE was unveiled on August 27 and reached stores in early September. Reported specs include a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, the Exynos 2500 chip, 8GB RAM, a 4,900mAh battery with 45W charging, and an IP68 rating. The US price starts at $699.99.

Foldables from Huawei and Xiaomi
On September 7, Huawei and Xiaomi both launched foldables in China, just ahead of Apple’s event.
- Huawei Mate XT2: a tri-fold that opens to a 10.2-inch screen, with a redesigned inward-folding hinge and a privacy screen. It starts at 19,999 yuan (about $2,980).
- Xiaomi 18 Fold: a book-style foldable with Xiaomi’s own XRing O3 chip, from 10,999 yuan (about $1,540).
These launched in China first, and we can’t say when or whether they will be sold officially in Nigeria.
Poco, Vivo, Infinix and Redmi launches
Several mid-range and performance phones launched, mostly in India first:
- Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra (September 1, global): Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, with the Ultra reported to have an 8,050mAh battery and a periscope camera.
- Poco X8 Power 5G (September 4, India): a 10,000mAh battery with 100W charging.
- Vivo T5 5G (September 2, India): a 7,050mAh battery and 144Hz display.
- Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G+ (September 4, India): a 6.76-inch 144Hz screen and a battery reported in the 5,600 to 6,000mAh range.
- Redmi Note 17 Pro and Pro Max (expected September 15, India): reported 9,000mAh and 10,000mAh batteries with 100W charging.
The trend is clear: bigger batteries and faster charging, with 7,000mAh and above now common on mid-range phones. Launch specs vary by country, so the model sold in Nigeria may differ from the India version.

Still to come
Reports point to more launches in China around the end of the month or early October, including the Xiaomi 18 Pro series, Vivo X500, iQOO 16, Oppo Find X10, Honor Magic9 and Huawei Mate 90 series. Some run on Qualcomm’s newest chip. Dates and details were not confirmed in the sources we checked.
Our advice for buyers in Nigeria
- Buy what is supported here. A phone launched only in China or India can lack warranty, service and the right network bands in Nigeria.
- Check the exact model. The version sold in Nigeria can differ from the version reviewed abroad.
- Do not overpay for hype. A new flagship costs more at launch, so last year’s model can be better value.
- Buy from a seller who gives a warranty and service-center details. Read how to spot an original phone first.
